Why is the preview taking so long?

Because the pages are built in batches rather than all at once, which is why you can start reading the first chapter while the later ones are still being made. Chapters with a spinner beside them are not ready yet. A long book takes a few minutes to complete. If it does not progress at all, close the preview, wait a minute and open it again — the pages carry on being built in the background.
